STATEMENT OF POLICY
Cambrook Construction No-Smoking Policy has been developed to protect all employees, service users, customers and visitors from exposure to secondhand smoke and to assist compliance with the Health Act 2006.
Exposure to secondhand smoke increases the risk of lung cancer, heart disease and other serious illnesses. The Company’s No-smoking Policy prohibits smoking and avoids non-smokers from becoming passive smokers by not exposing them to secondhand smoke.
POLICY
It is the policy of Cambrook Construction Ltd. that all our workplaces are smokefree, and all
Employees have a right to work in a smokefree environment. The policy shall come into effect on Sunday, 1 July 2007. Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed and substantially enclosed premises in the workplace.
This includes company vehicles. This policy applies to all employees, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, customers or members and visitors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Company has a legal responsibility to ensure they are smokefree and remain so. Therefore, the Company is prepared to take action if someone does smoke in a smokefree place.
The overall responsibility of keeping the Company Premises free from smoke and adhering to the No-smoking Policy rests with the Company Director. He will appoint No-smoking Co-ordinator who will be responsible for making sure that all employees are aware of the policy. S/he will put up the no-smoking signs at prominent places and monitor and evaluate the application of the Policy annually. The employees, customers, visitors will be informed of the legal aspects of the Policy, and they will be informed of the penalties by law. A complaint form will be made available and also help to get treatment will be extended by the No-smoking Policy Co-ordinator. S/he will make available the Policy and all Supplementary notices. Bring awareness by regular distribution of pamphlets (detail under the heading of Responsibilities).
IMPLEMENTATION
Overall responsibility for policy implementation and review rests with Mr Richard Edwards, the Company Director. However, all staff is obliged to adhere to, and support the implementation of the policy. The person named above shall inform all existing employees, consultants and contractors of the policy and their role in the implementation and monitoring of the policy. We will also give all new personnel a copy of all the policies. Appropriate ‘no-smoking’ signs will be clearly displayed at the entrances to and within the premises, and in all smokefree vehicles.
NON-COMPLIANCE
Local disciplinary procedures will be followed if a member of staff does not comply with this policy.
Those who do not comply with the smokefree law may also be liable to a fixed penalty fine and possible criminal prosecution.
HELP TO STOP SMOKING
Cambrook Construction Ltd. will guide employees to get free services, offered by NHS, to help smokers give up the habit. The Company will provide free transportation to those willing to go for treatment to nearest hospital under NHS.
